| About Us | |||||||||
| . | Welcome to Chili Pepper Chihuahua's. We are a small family ran breeder of Chihuahua's in the area south of Chicago near the Indiana border. We have been breeding Chihuahuas for 4 years. All Chihuahuas are treated as part of the family, we believe that socialization is the key to a happy Chihuahua. They are held and loved a lot. We are not just breeding a Chihuahua, but your next best friend. We love the breed, all our dogs are treated as part of our family. This is quite different than if you buy your puppy from a pet store. A lot of them buy from puppy mills that produce poor quality dogs that are never touched and will shake with fear. They are seldom touched and treated as property. All Chihuahua puppies will have been checked by our vet, will be wormed, and up to date on its puppy shots. The puppy will come with a health guarantee to make sure that friend is healthy, and any remaining distemper shots are free if you bring your puppy back on the date they are due. Right now we have 2 breeding females. Gracie (5 pounds, long coat) whos first litter was in June 2008. Ciara, our youngest at 4 months (4 pounds long coat) will not be mated until her second heat. The sire will be Chili Pepper (5.5 pounds, long coat) who's picture is above. Check out our Puppies page for pictures. |

| About Chihuahuas in general | |||||||||
| Chihuahuas
are the smallest breed of dog. They are best known for their small
size, large eyes, and large, erect ears. Chihuahuas come come in 2
types the long and the short coat chihuahua. |
|||||||||
| Hair | |||||||||
| The types of hair on a Chihuahua
are long and short coat .
The short coat is sometimes referred to as a smooth coat. But smooth is
more a reflection on the way it looks rather than how it feels. Smooth
coat chihuahuas will shed less often than long hair chihuahuas . Long
coat chihuahuas may not get their full coat for up to 2 and a half
years. |

| Standards | |||||||||
| Breed standards for chihuahuas do
not specify height in general , but
weight. The common height of a chihuahua ranges between 6 and
10 inches at the withers for show quality animals. The withers is the
highest point on a chihuahuas back, just about at the shoulder blades.
Non show quality chihuahuas can be up to 15 inches. The weight of a chihuahua is what is important. The smallest chihuahuas are in the 3.5 to 4 pound range. Chihuahua's under 6 pounds may have difficulty giving birth because of the size of the puppy and may require a cesarean section. The vast majority of show dogs are under 6.5 pounds, most winners are under 5. Non show quality chihuahuas may be up to 10 pounds. |

| Color | |||||||||
| The Chihuahua standard lists
under color: "Any color-Solid, marked or
splashed". This can result in a wide variety of colors, as mixing can
produce. |

| Sizes | |||||||||
Although
such terms as "teacup", "pocket size", "tiny toy",
"miniature" and "standard" have been used to describe different-sized
Chihuahuas, the Chihuahua Club of America issued a statement stressing
that these descriptions are misleading. Their statement reads:
